We woke to the happy news that Obama had won the election. All Ethiopians are thrilled. Cindy and I watched a bit more as we ate lunch at the Loyal Restaurant. One of our favorite residents said he had questioned Romney's education and didn't think he was smart enough to be president. That was the most interesting (and perhaps understated) comment of the day. Our Lali Bela guide also emailed his congratulations.
Everyone at the hospital was very happy to see us again today. We made rounds with the residents. Sister liked the CPAP circuit change. She and Cindy did some snipping and rearranging of the current cannulas to make them like we want them. The baby we put on last week before we left is still doing well and still on our CPAP creation.
The baby with esophageal atresia went home while we were away. And the little one with the ileal perforation is now down the hall with his mother rooming in, feeding and growing. Her mother is beaming. We will try to get a photo tomorrow. The residents are happy as there have been no deaths in surgical patients since Cindy and I arrived. Magic? It's quite nice that these two babies have done well.
Sister has arranged for us to visit other NICUs on Friday. Rosie came with today and went to morning report before heading off to visit museums. She "enjoyed" the ride in. Lemma forgave us for being a few minutes late when we told him about the election result, but then drove especially fast. She went to morning report and into the NICU with us. We are taking her with us to see the other places as well.
