Day 2 in Istanbul....happy birthday # 65

Birthday themes:  running, marathon running, Hagia Sophia, eating, cats...
The order of things isn't right!!

The sign at the start of the Hagia Sophia.  25 Turkish Lire to enter
Quite a line.

some Turkish mosaic in one of the mausoleums.  There were five of them
with many sarcophagi.  Lots of little ones for the Sultan's kids

a mosaic in the big mosque.  Mary and Jesus.

more tiles

the ceiling was way up there in the mosque

a very big chandelier in the middle.  That's Rosie underneath

We walked down to see the run.
First man, at the 40k mark in 2:03.  I think about 2k to go
That's the Bosphorus Strait on his right.

first woman

first person overall, wheel chair runner a couple of minutes before the first male runner
You will have to imagine the food.  Moussaka, simit and cheese snack, enormous breakfast that included yogurt/fruit/granola and more halvah.

Many cats live in Istanbul.  Here are a few.  They are all very well fed and we believe they are protected.

Here are a couple more photos from the square.
The fountain was on in the main square
