We went to morning report. All peds admissions and discharges are presented and attendings question the residents. I must say I didn't understand much of the conversation though everyone spoke English. Then we had a very short break and went to make rounds. Cindy left to go with Sister Brehane to the bank and get the Sim card loaded so I was alone.
I started out on rounds but by the third baby I was quite dizzy from the heat and had to sit down. I left and went out to the hall. I was wearing a t-shirt under my scrub shirt and that was just soaked with my sweat. Not a very good beginning! The resident seems quite bright though mostly from the book as we've been told. The third baby had Down's Syndrome. He also was a face presentation with significant bruising and had some sort of coagulopathy that was better. They can't do chromosomes studies to determine the specific abnormality. The other studies that they ordered seemed reasonable to me. The other two babies had been admitted with mild respiratory distress which was also improved. Of course, all of the babies were being treated with antibiotics though the plan was only 48 hours.
After that, we spent the afternoon just hanging out in the office and getting a bite to eat. Adonnis took us down the street to a small cafe where we split a croissant and two bottles of water (for $1.00). Then we walked back to the hospital. In the lobby, we had two white coffees for 7 birr (around 45 cents!). We left a small tip at both locations.
We headed home a little early. First we stopped at the Sheraton to look once more for a converter. No luck but see a photo of what we found in the office we have been given! I think we are all set. I tried my beard trimmer with Cindy's converter and that is no longer working. I will have to find one.
